FIRST TEAM MATCH REPORT Saturday 15th March 2014 United Counties League Division One OADBY TOWN 3 EYNESBURY ROVERS 0 Eynesbury Rovers suffered their second defeat against the runaway league leaders Oadby Town in the space of a fortnight. Despite this setback Rovers are poised in third place eight points behind Harrowby United but with four games in hand. Despite the score line Eynesbury had their fair share of possession and chances and played well in the first half in particular. In the 12th minute Oadby could have taken the lead but Jon Stevenson’s shot was blocked by a visiting defender. Eynesbury then broke rapidly and the move ended with Lee Bassett pouncing on an under hit back pass but Luke Pickering saved his shot. Josh Ling and Stephen Smith both brought out saves from the Oadby goalkeeper with shots from outside the penalty area. The hosts had chances from a Jake Duffy free kick but Andrew Wale saved the header, whilst Ryan Whatley cut in from the right wing and his fierce shot was palmed away by Wale. At the other end a Rob Ducket free kick fell kindly for Darren Woodend on the edge of the penalty area but snap shot narrowly cleared the cross bar. However, in the 41st minute Oadby took the lead. The ball was fed through to Jake Duffy, who looked suspiciously offside, and he played it to his right for Jack Lane to fire a low shot into the corner of the goal. Rovers responded as Ross West fired a shot wide and new signing Marcus Hering headed narrowly wide from a Rob Ducket free kick. Then on the stroke of half time Courtney Meade’s shot just went wide of the upright for the Leicestershire side. Rovers undoing was the conceding of two goals in the space of five second half minutes. In the 52nd minute a long ball forward by Jack Lane picked out Meade and he lifted his sot over Wale into the far corner of the goal to double the host’s advantage. Just four minutes later they scored again. Duffy’s free kick was delivered to the edge of the area for Meade. His shot was parried by Wale but Edward Appleton followed up to net the loose ball. Two minutes later Meade had the ball in the back of the net again but his effort was ruled out for offside. Ben Colmer set up Stephen Smith for Rovers but his shot from inside the penalty area was blocked by a defender. Colmer himself shot over whilst Lee Bassett headed wide from a Rob Ducket cross. Andrew Wale saved at the feet of Courtney Meade and then Julian Joachim but Eynesbury had the final opportunities but Lee Bassett shot across the face of goal and Alex Marsh headed wide from a Smith free kick.
