FLOOD WATCH FOR NORTH CENTRAL AND NORTH EAST CATCHMENTS Issued at 10:25 am EST on Sunday 24 August 2014 By the Bureau of Meteorology, Hobart Stream rises are now occurring in catchments in the North central and North East of the state due to rainfall since 9am Saturday. Rainfall totals for the 24 hours to 9am Sunday over the Northern catchments have ranged from 10 to 27 mm with the higher totals being recorded in elevated areas of the catchments. The forecast rainfall for the next 24 hours to 9am Monday is totals of 15mm to 25mm with possibly higher in elevated areas. The catchments in the Northern Central and North East of the state remain extremely wet from recent rain. The wet catchments combined with the forecast rainfall will lead to further stream rises Sunday into Monday. If the rainfall is in the upper end of the forecast range there is the potential for minor flooding to develop in Rivers in the North Central and North East. The catchments at highest risk are the North Esk, South Esk Meander and Mersey Rivers. The Bureau is continuing to monitor the situation and will issue catchment specific warnings if required.
