FONTANA: Broadside collision kills baby, critically injures dad RICHARD BROOKS / STAFF WRITER A 15-month-old girl has died three days after suffering head and chest injuries during a traffic accident in Fontana that sent � her dad to the hospital in critical condition, say police and county coroners officials. Emma Van Buren was riding in a car seat in the back of a teal 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix during the 11:29 a.m. wreck Friday, Oct. 31, � at Foothill Boulevard and Hemlock Avenue. Her 24-year-old father was stopped in the left turn on the westbound side of Foothill Boulevard, police said in a written statement, but then began to make a right turn -- into the path of a westbound 2007 Chevy Silverado pickup truck. The pickup truck broadsided the car, ejecting the child, who suffered chest trauma and bleeding in the brain, according to the statement. Her dad suffered a fractured skull. Emma died at 2:49 p.m. Monday at Kaiser Hospital in Fontana. Her dad remained in critical condition Tuesday. The pickup trucks driver suffered pain in his back and legs. Fontana police are continuing to investigate the accident.
