FOOTBALL-TOP TEN FOOTBALL BROTHERS- 1. Michael and Brian Laudrup. The Laudrup brothers are regarded as two of the best players in Danish history. Michael had a glittering football career with European giants Juventus, Real Madrid and Barcelona scoring 130 goals in 479 appearances. He won over 100 caps for his country and currently manages Swansea football club, and led them to their first ever major trophy as they won the Capital One Cup last season. Brian also played for powerhouses AC Milan, Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Fiorentina scoring 84 league goals in 342 games while he was capped 82 times by Denmark. 2. Ronald and Erwin Koeman. If you thought defenders are not prolific, meet Ronald Koeman. Ronald scored an astonishing 193 league goals in 533 matches- a feat that makes him the highest scoring defender in the history of football. Ronald enjoyed an outstanding career with Barcelona while Erwin played most of his football in Holland and in 472 league games he scored 92 times. 3. Frank and Ronald De Boer. Frank was a classy defender who recorded 112 appearances for the Dutch national team, and was their most capped player until Edwin Van Der Sar came along. Ronald, on the other hand, scored a total of 122 league goals in 492 matches as a midfielder and served as vice-captain for the Netherlands as Frank’s deputy. The twins were teammates at club level five times- Barcelona, Ajax, Rangers, Al-Rayyan and Al-Shamal. 4. Paolo and Fabio Cannavaro. The only defender to have won the FIFA Ballon D’or, Fabio Cannavaro enjoyed a successful career with the Italian national team winning the World Cup in 2006. The younger Cannavaro, Paolo, currently plays for Napoli and made his debut for former club Parma when he came on for his brother, Fabio. 5. Gary and Phil Neville. Gary and Phil Neville both started their careers at Manchester United where Gary spent his entire career and cemented his place as one of England’s best ever right-backs. His partnership with David Beckham was an important part of United’s continued success in the late 90′s and early 2000′s. Phil ,though, was more of an utility player who moved to Everton after 263 league appearances for the Red Devils. At Goodison Park, he served as an experienced and inspirational captain for David Moyes. 6. Kolo and Yaya Toure. The Toures have been one of the most famous brothers in football history. Kolo made his name as an uncompromising defender with Arsenal as part of the Invincibles before joining Manchester City where he won the league and FA Cup. Yaya, the more famous brother, is currently a key member of the City side having joined in the summer of 2010 on the back of a successful spell with Barcelona. 7. Diego and Gabriel Milito. Gabriel Milito turned out for Independiente, Zaragoza and Barcelona as a center-back, making 42 international appearances in the process, but sadly announced his early retirement due to injury. However, Diego is still flying the Milito family flag with Inter Milan and the high point of his career came during the 2010 Champions League final when his brace helped Inter Milan secure a famous Treble. 8. Jerome and Prince Boateng. While other brothers turned out for their countries alongside each other, these two do not. Jerome plays for the German national team and Kevin plays for Ghana. Prince had earlier called time on his international career but had a change of heart sometime this year.Cynics say he is eyeing a place on the plane to Brazil next year. 9. Simone and Filippo Inzaghi. The Inzaghi brothers enjoyed contrasting careers. Filippo Inzaghi is one of the most famous strikers of all time and stats like being the second-most prolific goalscorer in European club competitions with 70 goals explain why. Simone Inzaghi did not inherit the goalscoring genes as he managed a mere 28 goals in 129 league appearances as he spent 11 seasons at Lazio. 10. Sir Bobby and Jack Charlton. Imagine winning the World Cup alongside your brother? Well this two do not have to imagine as they won it with England in 1966. Bobby was a striker and scored 199 goals in 606 league appearances and 49 goals in 106 international appearances. Jack was not far off scoring 70 goals in 629 league appearances for Leeds United as well as six goals in 35 games for England despite being a centre back.
