FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Alisa Valdes 505-848-1320 [email protected] August 25, 2014 “Resolana Burque” Public Gathering at South Broadway Hopes to Help Heal Hearts and Minds in Albuquerque ALBUQUERQUE, NM—On Wednesday, September 17th from 7 – 9 p.m. poets, artists, authors and the general public will gather at the South Broadway Cultural Center to pay tribute to the many among us who have fallen through violent action, and hopefully contribute to the necessary healing of our wounded city. Traditionally, hard-working people have gathered in a special spot in their communities to dialogue and reflect—La resolana. A wide-ranging representative group of Albuquerque poets and authors will read and perform their original works relevant to the linked themes of honor and healing, Authors and artists who are scheduled to perform at the event are: Current Albuquerque Poet Laureate Jessica Helen Lopez; former Albuquerque Poet Laureate Hakim Bellamy; Manuel Gonzales, who will also serve as Master of Ceremonies; Adan Baca; Brooke van Blomberg; Jaime Chavez; VB Price; Don McIver; Sarita Sol Gonzales; Larry Goodell; Zachary Kluckman; Maria Leyba; Mitch Rayes (reading a poem by Bob Swearingen); Margaret Randall; Tony Santiago; Carlos Contreras; Cuffee; Jazz; Damian Flores; Katrina Guarascio; Pamela Hirst; Nate Maxson; ABQ Unidas Youth Slam Team; hip hop poet Mike 360; nationally-recognized poet Danny Solis (via video); and Bill Nevins. Prose authors include Nicole Gramlisch, author of the novel Carla’s Rivett, Mark Rudd, author of Underground, and Alisa Valdes, author of the novel The Dirty Girls Social Club. The event is free to all and is co-sponsored by South Broadway Cultural Center, the New Mexico State Poetry Society, and New Mexico RPB as a public service. Organizer Bill Nevins hosts monthly poetry events at SBCC. His book, Heartbreak Ridge and Other Poems, has recently been published by Swimming With Elephants Press. South Broadway Cultural Center is managed by the Cultural Services Department, City of Albuquerque, Richard J. Berry, Mayor. The facility is a multi-cultural, visual, performing and literary art center that promotes, preserves and educates the community about the cultures and ethnicities that define Albuquerque. Located at 1025 Broadway SE, the unique architecture and colorful design of the building’s exterior is an attraction in the area. There is free parking immediately adjacent to the facility.
