FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Submitted 10/31/14 CONTACT: Kelly Lippie Tippecanoe County Historical Association Phone: 765-476-8411 ext. 206 Fax: 765-476-8414 Email: [email protected] TCHA TO HOST BATTLE OF TIPPECANOE ANNUAL COMMEMORATION Sunday November 9th 10:00 am to 5:00 pm On November 7th, 1811, William Henry Harrison’s troops and the warriors of Prophet’s Town engaged in the famous Battle of Tippecanoe. This event, significant in the history of Indiana and the United States, is remembered each year by the Tippecanoe County Historical Association with special programs to help tell the story of the battle and to honor those who fought. This year, on Sunday November 9th from 10:00am to 5:00pm, the special theme will be honoring American Veterans. A living history military encampment will be set up on the grounds of the park to showcase veterans from American conflicts throughout time. Visitors will have an opportunity to talk with living historians who portray veterans of the Battle of Tippecanoe, War of 1812, Civil War, and WWII. At 1:00 pm, a flag ceremony and wreath laying will be held at the monument. Participating in the ceremony will be the Honor Guard of American Legion Post 11, representatives from The National Center for Great Lakes Native American Culture, Inc., and retired military chaplain, Ron Wunsch. WWII veteran 1st Lt. Ray Miller , whose story of his experiences as a pilot of one of the legendary B-17G flying Fortress was written by Ruby Gwin, will be on hand to sign the book and tell his story. A 30 minute talk about the battle will be held at the monument at 11:00 and 3:30, led by an educator from the Tippecanoe County Historical Association. This event is free and open to the public.
