FOR THOSE WHO LIVE IN SHARED HOUSING UNITS.... Any time you zero humanism for your personal comfort, there is a resultant and seemingly equal chance to deprive your neighbour/s wholesomeness/contentment. It may be a calculated act to oppress or simply out of sheer ignorance through which we cause other people unbearable pains and discomfort. Having mentioned two classes of offenders, this musing shall be centered on the ignorant, not on those feigning ignorance. It is against this backdrop that I decided to take this tour. It is understandable that you did not cause Nigerias energy availabilty deficiency. That is one of the reasons why you purchased that electric generator that is ranting near your neighbours apartment. Do you want to stop reading? Lol...Wetin I do? Just hold on for five minutes, at least for the fact that, I am one of the victims whom most generator owners usually oppress with words like: Wetin consine am? Abi no be my money I take buy am?. It is not easy to buy one anyway....Make bad belle no kill me. Indeed, you pass your neighbour and of course Gods grace and magnanimity pays rent your house. But, that shall be a topic for another day. Alright, back to our discuss. Apart from the carbon-monoxide meal you serve to your neighbours at will, you also keep them awake with the noise pollution therefrom until you decide otherwise, yet you feel nothing. Good, let me help you deal with this because it appears your conscience demands a serious diagnosis and rehabilitation perchance, it is yet alive. The moment you develop and sustain this height of misdemeanor, and feels comfortable, then you have lost touch with love and humanity. However, for your information, it is a crime to disturb your neighbour by any means including noisy prayers. In fact, in sensible societies, the affected person/s can sue and claim damages for your undue burdensomeness. Please come back to Nigeria, stop flying your mind in another mans land whereas the problem resides here. You can also sue offenders but I am aware that we are phobia to holy fire. That is enough excuse to remain humble to these excesses, for god fearing people anyway. Therefore, let us keep that aside, do not go to court. Clears throat, it is rational to accept the fact that the country is facing electric power challenges before I was born (Maybe because of witch-craft operations, the enormous size of the country, and/or the sins of our fore-fathers who may have committed more sins that other countries. Yes, another salient reason may be traced to bad policies, poor implementation, corruption and utter wickedness) but that is not a good justification to keep your neighbours standing! It is their fault not yours. You are hereby cleared to smoke your neighbours to death! Contrarily, do not buy and use a generator is not fair a commandment neither is it practicable. My point is that you have to consider the appropriate locational distance that can minimize the negative health and psychological impacts on other people. If it involves a descent from your tower (if you live above), please consider basic benefits for your victims because their lives and comfort is as important as yours. Let us talk about my landlord. My landlord is a religious leader outside Christendom. It happens that he is a type that enjoys hip-pops and the Nigerian contemporary gbedu. And he is one of the miscroscopic few in my host village who can boast of domestic sound system. He is quite benevolent with noise that I dread power supply to the village. The sound bonanza entertains everyone, whether you like it or not provided you are within the coverage radius. That is a form of charity. So, what is my problem? I had approached him severally in the most humane manner especially before my exams because the hits from his apartment juxtaposed to mine is a thing to bother about. Earlier, the feeling of being gifted with a high threshold for noise accommodation kept patience alive, but he succeeded at rendering that record immaterial. It is noteworthy that my appeals always yields appreciable compliance but tonights party was simply unbearable. Sunk in my thoughts, I could not fathom what actually would happen to a sick tenant within range. Please, leave my landlord alone and bring yourself back. Do you have a generator or sound system? How much concern is sectored for your neighbours well-being? Do you realize that most of their activities such as: reading, reflection, meditation, relaxation, rest/quietude, exam preparations, job interview preparations, etc require a least noise environment? Are you in the habit of mismanaging the volume button? Do you in anyway cause discomfort to others via prayers, generators, sound systems and other noise sources? What about the release of exhaust fume within convenience zones in the compound? Add yours.... I recall the principle of environmental unity! Whatever you do at one point within your immediate environment (positively/negatively) affects another point on the earth surface (positively/negatively). Individual problems aggregates into a social problem. Also remember the saying that injustice anywhere is a threat everywhere. Therefore, before you deal with my landlord, start with yourself. Be concerned. Be safe. Be human.
