FOR WHAT IT IS WORTH, JUST TRY ANYWAY. --------------------------- Kampala MPs on the Uganda Parliamentary Forum on the Media are gathering signatures from journalists to back their petition against police’s continued brutality on scribes in the country. The MPs intend to table the petition before Parliament calling for thorough investigations of the police officers involved after returning from the Christmas recess. “We are demanding that the Inspector General of Police [Gen Kale Kayihura] ensures that thorough investigations are carried out and the perpetuators are brought to book. This should be done to its logical conclusion with the public informed at every stage,” Ms Mariam Nalubega, the chairperson of the forum, said. The petition comes in the wake of protests by journalists denouncing increasing brutality against members of the fourth estate following the battering of two journalists by the Old Kampala police commander, Mr Joram Mwesigye. The journalists were covering youth protestors. One of the journalists is hospitalised at Nsambya. Police however, moved swiftly to suspend Mr Mwesigye even as the press threatened a black out on all the police activities. monitor.co.ug/News/National/Journalists-torture--MPs-to-table-petition/-/688334/2589476/-/qyaw9lz/-/index.html
