FRAUD The rhino poaching issue isnt only a conservation problem. It is mostly a problem of corruption and organised crime. Actually, what do Rhino farmers want ? Do they want to sell hides, skins, furs or meat? No. There is no getting around the fact that what they really want to do is commit fraud. So, we can argue about hunting and about vegetarianism and about the accuracy of population figures until the cows come home. On those subjects we can voice opinions and state our cases. We can debate and try to sway others. BUT ON THE SUBJECT OF RHINO HORN TRADE THERE IS NO DEBATE. IT IS IMMORAL AND UNETHICAL. THE DECISION ON WHETHER TO TRADE IT OR NOT MUST BE DECIDED ON THOSE GROUNDS. The Government of South Africa is obliged to act morally and ethically. It CANNOT in all good conscience sell a bogus product to another countries citizens with the intention of committing medical fraud. In that respect rhino horn is a different to most wildlife products in that it has no practical use. On the contrary, it is a dangerous placebo and in some instances, toxic. You can make shoes from skins, eat meat to survive, use furs to keep from freezing. BUT RHINO HORN is only used as a spurious cure in Traditional medicine that has been debunked. I will go so far as to say that if the world has to sacrifice the rhinoceros species to prevent human suffering, we may well have to do that. We may lose all our rhinos because the demand reduction campaigns took too long. At CITES CoP17 in Cape Town in 2016 the world will have to decide: What is more important? An animal or a human? Or to be more specific: What is more important? A rhino or an Asian? Or to be even more specific: What is more important? A white rhino or a Vietnamese cancer sufferer that is using horn to cure his disease instead of seeking medical help. Or a baby who developed autism because his mother ingested phenylalanine in rhino horn during her pregnancy? And remember: This is a decision that our GOVERNMENTS will have to make, not us as individuals. The fact that the South African Cabinet has already decided to submit a trade proposal indicates the state of moral depravity and perversity that our leaders suffer from. They did not act in accordance with standards of right or good conduct when they made that decision. Yes, the world will vote against rhino horn trade. It has to, or be forever damned.
