FREEDOM IN BONDAGE During my walk in the woods this morning, I - TopicsExpress

FREEDOM IN BONDAGE During my walk in the woods this morning, I encountered this lovely flocking birds-Swallows; I got fascinated with their togetherness and I interacted with few among them. I asked why they migrate together, and one of them explained the benefits of their united movement to me. The Swallow explained, Reason we flock is that many eyes and ears can detect predators easier; if members in our group take turns looking and listening for danger, each individual will be able to spend more time searching for food and eating and our younger generation could learn from the older birds with experience on where to find important resources. He also stated that, Flocking may also make it harder for predators to single out prey from among the confusion of many moving birds. I really learn from his wealth of knowledge and sincerity. So I asked when they will be migrating to the US of America, but to my surprise he didnt understand what USA is. Then I told him that USA is just a country just as the place they are currently is called Nigeria. He got confused and told me that they dont know anything about country, race nor colour; as all they do is flock together for food, enjoyment and procreation. His words pierced my heart, and I didnt know when tears started rolling down my big cheeks then I sat on a log of wood. Now he didnt notice the change of my mood, but continued in his speech with a great joy. You see: Were born, We live, We die; and life goes on. My birth was not my making, my death I cannot stop; but living is my responsibility. I need my fellow Swallows to survive, hence I will keep flocking with them. He submitted. And in tears I responded to all he had said, so I said: Swallow, I know of fishes in the water that will move from too salty water condition to a lesser salty water body to procreate; I know of the migratory pattern of the buffaloes to avoid draught but we Humans are not like that! Human is a very complex animal living on Earth, in our advancement we created injustice, greed and war thereby destroying nature. I cannot move to any country I wish to without approval, for we humans have created imaginary boundaries to limit our migration; if I try to move out of my confinement without seeking approval, I will be imprisoned by my fellow human race. He could not understand my ordeal, he looked on as I talk and when I finished my words; he said it is like Humans are living a life devoid of Freedom! And yes, we humans are not free; even when we think we are.
