FREEJ SOELEH- ARABIC CUISINE If you haven’t heard of Freej Soeleh, you are either not fond of Arabic cuisine or are new to Kuwait!!! This is by far THE most popular Kuwaiti restaurant in the country. Located near the Marina Mall (next to Max) is this two-story building that serves the best Kuwaiti food that one can offer. It has a very peculiar host that greets you at the entrance - An old red Ford pick-up truck! One step into the restaurant and you’ll immediately be transported back in time to the traditional ‘50’s Kuwaiti neighborhood (freej = neighborhood). The place is themed to be reminiscent of the bygone era - dimly lit mud walled cabins with little wooden windows (Not real mud). In addition to this are small stalls made out of wood and palm leaves that serve tea and sweets at the corners. But Freej Soeleh is popular neither for the outdoor attraction nor for its interiors. It is known for what a restaurant should be known for- its FOOD. The cuisine is simply lip-smackingly delicious and will leave you craving for more! The ‘machboosh’ (chicken or mutton) and ‘soup in bread bowl’ are a must-try. Amusingly, even the ‘Biryani’(Indian cuisine) at this Kuwaiti restaurant tasted really good. And the complimentary sweet after food is always a welcome gesture. The food portion is generous and the pricing is pretty reasonable.Though a Kuwaiti restaurant, the place is swarming with merry Philipino hostesses and cheerful Indian/Bangladeshi waiters, which makes communication easy for those from the subcontinent. While the 2nd floor and basement are reserved for families, the 1st floor caters to the ever-so-hungry bachelors. If you are with family and are lucky enough, you might get one of the few cabins in the basement that have an aquarium full of exotic fish. There is ample parking space on the outside, yet it can be hard to find parking during rush hours (because of max and marina mall crowd). Be there early to avoid the waiting list which, at times, can be over whelming. If you love Arabic cuisine or are a food enthusiast in general, then you cannot give this place a miss! Pros: Good Arabic food, Traditional ambiance, Cheerful waiters. Cons: Orders can take very long during rush hours, Waiting list can take forever.
