FRIENDS PRESERVING TRADITIONS: This year the FRIENDS Northern - TopicsExpress

FRIENDS PRESERVING TRADITIONS: This year the FRIENDS Northern Highlands Chapter took on a new project -- the revival of the Brinegar Cabin Garden. For two years the garden had not been planted. Chapter volunteers coordinate the efforts of six volunteers to bring the garden back to life. The first order of business was to sow some heirloom seeds for transplanting and identify perennials to be saved from among the weeds. The garden was tilled and sown with flax, buckwheat, pumpkins, sorghum, broom corn, cabbage, heirloom tomatoes, walking onions, pitcher gourds, and pole beans. The volunteers have attended to the garden throughout the summer for a total of over 150 hours. The video below talks about the great work done on this project. Thanks to the Blue Ridge Parkway for producing this video. Special thanks to Claree James, a Blue Ridge Parkway intern funded by FRIENDS, who produced this video. https://youtube/watch?v=RGOHn1ml4EI&list=TLmelaWDtawLCdBHPOoTbdfU8ny9EKcfht
