FROM FATHER MIKE The parables of Jesus are more than great stories. They are challenges for us to abandon what we see in the world as “normal” and to live according to God’s revealed ways. In this week’s example, a man thought he had the world at his feat. He thought he had all that he needed to live in the lap of luxury. He was going to retire with his granaries full and live high off the hog. Instead…he died. We can get so short sighted in so many different ways. For example: We want to win at all cost. We work to possess or buy rather than work to please God. We invest so much in meaningless pursuits. We get lazy and satisfied doing the minimum with our faith yet we will exhaust all efforts for fleeting moments of pleasure. We get caught up in the latest hype. What would happen if we would see as God sees and root ourselves in what is eternal? What would happen if we would act as God asks us to? What would happen if we would live for God and his eternal ways instead of our short-term fads, trends, or latest political movements? To put it simply, we would truly be alive.
