FROM KBYG/Mike Henry - Howard County officially learned Thursday that their recent road repairs grant application to TXDOT came through, and with a bit more than the actual anticipated $3.5 million in the application. Howard County Judge Mark Barr tells KBYG News that he learned Thursday that Howard County is eligible for $3.8 million to go toward repairs of county roads due to damage from growing oilfield-related traffic. Judge Barr says it is his understanding that the county will not receive the money up front, but will have to spend it first on actual road repairs, and then be reimbursed for those repairs within about 30-45 days after notifying TXDOT. The grant isnt 100% of the costs either. It is an 80% / 20% matching grant for repair costs, says Barr.
