FROM MICHAEL QUINN SULLIVAN....follow this and continue to follow. It is your freedom at stake. Thank you so much for your interest in the work of Texans for Fiscal Responsibility and Empower Texans. It is only with the support of so many friends around Texas that we are able to keep Texans informed about the issues facing the state and the activities of their elected officials. Of course, that doesnt make us the most popular kids on the block with the legislators in Austin! And that is what the hearing tomorrow (June 25) by the Texas Ethics Commission is all about -- the establishment striking out at anyone who questions them. For example, we know the TEC is already gearing up to next attack Texas Right to Life for their work in opposing liberals during the 2014 primaries. The TEC is adopting the unconstitutional position that any citizen not employed by the dying liberal media who writes about the legislature must get a permit from them to do so! We got word late yesterday that after 26 months investigating us, the staff of the Texas Ethics Commission is going to ask for a delay in the hearing. This is unconscionable, and goes to both the cowardice and incompetence of these wannabe speech regulators and faux prosecutors. We wont stand for it. Just as the IRS is claiming to have mysteriously lost records pertaining to their attacks on conservative groups just before a public hearing, the TEC staff decided they need more time just hours before having to make their case public. Since they have already decided we are guilty of exercising our First Amendment liberties, the delay is just another example of the TECs long record of abusing due-process rights. No matter what, there is going to be a hearing tomorrow in front of the eight political appointees who make up the Texas Ethics Commission. Make no mistake, though: it will be the Commission and the TEC staff who will be on trial. The hearing should be available to watch online: house.state.tx.us/video-audio/broadcast-schedule We would certainly appreciate your thoughts and prayers for our legal team team -- and, of course, a special contribution to off-set legal expenses would be very helpful! The EmpowerTexans Team and I will be live-reporting the hearing through our Twitter accounts, including @EmpowerTexans and @MQSullivan. (If you arent on Twitter, this is a good time to sign up!) If you are in Austin and want to stop by, the Wednesday, June 25, hearing will be in Room 120 of the John H. Reagan Building, beginning at 8:30am. We didnt pick this fight, but it is a fight we are going to win!
