FROM THE NEWSROOM: 23-year-old Patrick Meehan of Dudley, Mass., the suspect of the robbing of Coriander Cafe and General Store in Eastford in June appeared in Danielson Superior Court today on charges of first degree robbery and sixth degree larceny, and his case has been continued to September 13th by Judge Thomas Moukawsher. According to his attorney, Meehan has a serious substance abuse problem; and he has numerous other cases pending within the court system, and his $75,000 bond has been upheld in court. Reports out of the State Police Troop D Barracks in Danielson indicate Meehan was taken into custody by authorities in Auburn, Mass., on Sunday and transported back to Conn. where he was arrested by State Police. On June 27, troopers responded to the report of a robbery at Coriander Cafe on Eastford Rd. in Eastford. Witnesses told police that a white male suspect had entered the store, and while a clerk rang up a soda for the man, he placed a silver revolver-style handgun on the counter and demanded all of the money in the register. The clerk called to her supervisor, who confronted the man - now believed to be Meehan - and attempted to take the handgun, according to the report. Meehan allegedly pulled away and left the scene, fleeing before police arrived. Following a lengthy investigation by the Eastern District Major Crime Squad, detectives identified Meehan as the suspect and applied for an arrest warrant from Danielson Superior Court, which was granted.
