FROM THE NEWSROOM: According to a recent press release from Troop E in Montville, a 75-year-old New Hampshire resident was killed in a crash this morning at the intersection of Rt 138 and the exit 85 northbound access road from I-395, when the vehicle she was traveling in went through a red light and was struck on the passenger side by a tractor trailer truck. Troop E responded to the scene around 10:29 am. The truck which was driven by 52-year-old New York resident Robert Paige was traveling west on Route 138 when 73-year old New Hampshire resident Roland Gulmond, who was driving northbound on the access road to I-395, drove through the red light which resulted in the fatal collision. Gulmond was transported by Griswold ambulance to William W. Backus Hospital in Norwich for treatment of a possible head injury, and the woman who was killed was transported to the medical examiner officer. The Exit 85 on-ramp to Interstate 395 remained closed for a period of time, but was reopened around 3 pm, and police said that Rt. 138 was opened after the accident. All occupants had been wearing seat-belts at the time of the crash.
