FROM THE NEWSROOM: After residents brought up a growing concern about the cost of living in Sterling, First Selectman Russel Gray says officials and volunteers are working to get an Energy Conservation Committee up and running in the town, to help get costs – in some areas – under control. Gray says an ordinance must be adopted to get the ball rolling. The First Selectman appointed Sterling resident Frank Bood as the Chairman, describing him as “well qualified.” Bood says his first step is putting together a case study on what can be done and how much it would cost, something hasnt been done in the past. How much money is the Town looking at saving? “The amount should be significant,” said Bood. “It could be upwards of $150,000 to $200,000 – it could be $1 million. We just dont know, because we havent had the data to support looking into grants to see if we can get more energy efficient schools buses.” He says the numbers are going to be significant enough that everyone will be “on board because itll just make economical sense.” Other ideas that the Commission has brought forward are solar panels on the Towns Municipal building and working on ways to stop what say is significant energy loss through the schools roof. The Sterling Energy Conservation Committee is accepting volunteers; interested parties can contact the town hall. Tune in for the full report.
