FROM THE NEWSROOM: (CRN) Officials are urging older Conn. residents not to fall victim to the “grandparents scam” which has resurfaced in the state. AARP Connecticut Spokesperson Jennifer Millea says the grandparents scam usually involves getting a phone call from someone claiming to be a grandchild, whos in distress. “Theyve either been arrested, or theyve been in an accident or something horrible has happened, and theyre asking for your help and for you to send money either for bail or something [else],” says Millea. “And they usually say dont call my parents, dont call anyone.” Millea says the best advice for anyone who receives such a phone call is to just hang up. State officials say three Redding residents victimized by the scam lost a total of almost $200,000. Tune in for the full report.
