FROM THE NEWSROOM: HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Gov. Dannel P. Malloy says he plans to appoint state Motor Vehicles Commissioner Melody Currey to head the Department of Administrative Services, succeeding Commissioner Donald DeFronzo, who is retiring. Malloy said Friday the Department of Administrative Services, which is in charge of providing administrative services to other state agencies, has identified millions in savings and made state government more efficient with consolidations, staff reductions, improved procurement and more aggressive bidding. The governor credited Currey for successfully establishing changes in the Department of Motor Vehicles to upgrade technology systems. Shes been commissioner since 2011 and previously served as mayor of East Hartford and a member of the state House of Representatives. Malloy did not announce a successor to Currey.
