FROM THE NEWSROOM: HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — More than 6,270 Connecticut veterans have applied to participate in the states veterans ID program. The program gives veterans an option to place an American flag symbol on a state-issued license or identity card to designate his or her veterans status. Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman said on Veterans Day on Tuesday that the program is a small but important step in the states efforts to give veterans the support they need. The insignia is intended to help businesses and service providers establish eligibility for discounts, programs and services available to veterans. Legislation was enacted in 2011 requiring the state Department of Motor Vehicles commissioner to include a persons status as a veteran, if applicable, on his or her state drivers license or identity card.
