FROM THE NEWSROOM: HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — Republican gubernatorial candidate Tom Foley is trying be more appealing to Connecticut voters as he faces a barrage of negative TV ads. This week, the businessman began running two versions of a commercial called The Plan. Foley talks directly to the voters, promising to lower taxes, keep spending flat for two years and make government work better for everyone. Hes also been running an ad featuring his wife Leslie and their two children. But a Quinnipiac (KWIHN-ih-pee-ak) University Poll, released Wednesday, shows Foleys approval rating among voters has taken a hit. For the first time, more voters have a negative view of him than a positive one. Democratic Gov. Dannel P. Malloys favorability rating is slightly worse, however. Malloy and his supporters have focused on Foleys business record and taxes.
