Quiz time! Whats the most difficult game youve ever played...that youve NEVER solved/defeated/beaten/conquered/won/whatever other word you use for completed? Mine is Realms of Arcania 2: Star Trail. I played it back in...like...1994? 1995? It remains, to this day, the hardest game I have ever come across, and that includes things like I Wanna Be The Guy. Anyone who claims to have finished this game is a damn dirty liar. Not even the devs could beat it without hacking, two trainers, and extensive save file load/reloading. Hate. So much hate for this game. Every night, some debilitating disease would infect at least one of my party members, often the only one(s) who could look for the herbs to even have a REMOTE chance of curing it. And if by some God-given miracle they FOUND the herbs to cure it, and the disease was cured, the next night SOMEONE ELSE would catch yet ANOTHER disease that there WAS NO CURE FOR. The combat was atrocious. I could win one, possibly two fights, between towns, but then I would be ambushed time after time, running low on HP and mana, and I would be forced to sacrifice someone to ensure the survival of the rest of the party. Auto-resolving combat ALWAYS ended with someone in my party dying, even when the odds were seemingly overwhelmingly in my favor (6 trained adventurers, magicians and rangers and barbarians and what not, should be able to take care of two mangy wolves, you would think). Making enough money for resurrections at temples was impossible. The list goes on. I mean, dont get me wrong, the game itself is great, the pseudo 3-d exploration of towns and swamps and things was fantastic and the storyline was engaging (lots of sidequests), but the learning curve was a freaking torus. HATE.
