FROM THE NEWSROOM: Outgoing State Senate President Pro Tem Don Williams said he is honored to have received the Putnam Pride Award by the Putnam Board of Education, and in turn said he has always been able to rely on school district officials for advice and information. The ceremony earlier this week honored both Williams and retiring school staff, with Superintendent Bill Hull explaining even though this particular award is usually reserved for Putnam citizens, an exception was made with consideration to Williamss and State Representative Danny Roveros request for a waiver in the reimbursement rate of the new high school project that could save the town upwards of $6 million. Williams, who thanked district officials for their services, said that Northeastern Connecticut isnt the wealthiest part of the state, so grant funding is something he strongly believes in fighting for. But the public is still trying to guess where the long-serving Senator will go after he retires from the state legislature in January, especially after his bid to become the next president of the Quinebaug Valley Community College fell short of success; Williams simply said he hopes whatever he moves onto, he can continue working to benefit the Northeastern corner.
