FROM THE NEWSROOM: Outgoing State Senate President Pro Tem Don Williams has been appointed as the new Deputy Director of Professional Policy, Practice, Research and Reform for the Connecticut Education Association, according to a statement made by CEA President Sheila Cohen in a news release. “I am extremely proud to announce this appointment because Don is a strong advocate for public education and teachers,” said Cohen. “With 22 years of direct legislative policy experience in the Connecticut State Senate, Don’s skills and commitment are a perfect match for what CEA needs during this time of extraordinary challenges in public education. He shares our goal to have every student succeed and every teacher respected as a professional educator,” she added. Williams said, “I’ve been passionate about defending our public schools as engines of opportunity and equality for all children. It’s an honor to continue that commitment by working for CEA on policy proposals that support our teachers and strengthen our traditional public schools.” Williams assumes his position at the CEA in January 2015.
