FROM THE NEWSROOM: PRESS RELEASES FROM CT DEMS AND CT GOP: Governor Dannel Malloy accepted the Democratic party’s nomination for re-election Governor, Friday, according to a recent press release, as did Nancy Wyman for Lt. Governor. Democrat Denise Merrill also on Friday won a resounding endorsement for a second 4-year term as Connecticut Secretary of the State from the state Democratic party convention, winning the endorsement by acclamation. The voice vote of the nearly two thousand delegates took place at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford and gives Merrill a clear mandate for another term as Connecticut’s top elections official and chief business registrar. Connecticut Republicans at the state party convention Friday evening also nominated a full slate of Congressional candidates. “Our party is well-equipped to take the fight to congressional Democrats who day after day are making decisions that are simply destructive,” state party Chairman Jerry Labriola said. “From Obamacare to taxes and regulations heaped on job creators, the negative impact of the potent policies pushed by our state’s congressional delegation must be reversed.” Mark Greenberg landed the party’s nomination in the 5th Congressional District to take on Democrat Elizabeth Esty. In the 4th Congressional District, former state senator Dan Debicella won the nomination to challenge Democrat Jim Himes, whose service has seemingly benefitted his Wall Street friends more than constituents. Jim Brown secured the nomination to challenge entrenched Democrat and Barack Obama loyalist Rosa DeLauro in the 3rd Congressional District. The endorsed 2nd Congressional District candidate is Lori Hopkins Cavanaugh, who is set to square off against incumbent Joe Courtney. In the 1st Congressional District, Matt Corey won the nomination to take on longtime Congressman John Larson. Delegates at the Republican Party convention on Friday night also selected Peter Lumaj to challenge Secretary of the State Denise Merrill in November. The party’s state convention continues through Saturday, when candidates for the bulk of statewide offices will be nominated.
