FROM THE NEWSROOM: The draft report for the Putnam Finance Department needs assessment studt has come in from the towns auditing firm, bringing to light some shortcomings in a department which had been falling behind in its work, according to Town Administrator Doug Cutler. One issue – a lack of employee training – Cutler says was hopefully addressed just this week by a full training session for the AccuFund software that was deemed necessary. Also, Cutler says the auditor intends to assign the town one of its senior accountants to answer questions regarding the close-outs of last fiscal year, and assisting the department going into the current fiscal year. Cutler says a likely need for additional staff was also noted in the draft report, but its believed that need can possibly be mitigated or eliminated by appropriate employee training, which is what town officials are hoping is the case. Although an original $20,000 appropriation was made to pay for this needs assessment, Cutler says the quote from the auditing firm only came back at $10,000. Its anticipated, however, that the aforementioned senior accountant will require payment for hours worked, which would come from the remainder of those funds. Tune in for the full report.
