FSP Maritime Alert! 07 March 2014 Speaker Feliciano Belmonte, Jr. signs the House of Representativesand Senate-ratifiedconsolidated bill promoting competency and proficiency among Filipino seafarers and ensuring the countrys compliance with the 1978 International Convention on Standards of Training Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW Convention). Witnessing the simple signing rites last night were principal sponsors, authors and advocates (from right) Majority Leader Neptali Gonzales, Hon. Marcelino Teodoro; Hon. Jonathan dela Cruz; Hon. Fernando Gonzalez; Hon. Cesar Sarmiento; Committee on Accounts Chairman Eleandro Jesus Madrona (who also chaired the TWG); Hon. Jesulito Manalo; Hon. Ronald Cosalan; and Hon. Al Francis Bichara. The ratified consolidated bill has been transmitted to the Office of the President for enactment into law. The measure is entitled: An Act establishing the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) as the single maritime administrator responsible for the implementation and enforcement of the STCW Convention, as amended, and International Agreements or Covenants related thereto. c/o seamanonline.ph
