Facebook offers 60 lakh packages to 2 IIITAllahabad students The well-known social networking website Facebook has offered yearly salaries of Rs 60 lakh to 2 students from the premier Indian Institute of Information Technology-Allahabad (IIIT-Allahabad). One other student from the same institute has been chosen as the “student ambassador” for the popular search engine company Google. This recent hiring has augmented the brand value of IIIT-Allahabad as a premier global Information Technology (IT) institute. As per IIIT-Allahabad officials, the students hired by Facebook are final year students pursuing Bachelor of Technology (B Tech) courses. Google has selected their batch mate to act as IIIT-Allahabad’s representative in the role of Google Student Ambassador for the forthcoming academic year, through a communiqué which was issued on Monday, July 1, 2013. As per IIIT-Allahabad officials, several companies took part in the 2012-2013 campus recruitment process, during which students pursuing B Tech courses acquired jobs in quite a few top companies and the entire batch achieved 100% placements. Over 70% of students were offered lucrative packages of more than Rs 5.5 lakh, the highest being a package of a whopping Rs 60 lakh. Other than Facebook and Google, companies who hired students from the institute are Walmart, Microsoft, Amazon, Verizon and Yahoo. In addition to offering placement to students, these companies offered Pre-Placement Offers (PPOs) to students of pre-final year, the officials added. The package offered by multinational giant Microsoft to some of the students was Rs 18 lakh per year, whereas retail corporation Walmart offered Rs 22 lakh. Well-known companies such as Sapient, International Business Machines (IBM) and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) recruited IIIT-Allahabad’s students by huge numbers. As per the institute officials, IIIT-Allahabad has contributed a lot in equipping its students to find gainful employment in the present unstable corporate world, by providing excellent course-content as well as faculty. This year, the students were selected across companies in different parts of India and these students belong to the top 0.5% bracket in the total talent pool of India. The students have also gained the level of brilliance required to shine in the corporate world, the officials added.
