Fairfield Boathouse Handicap 7k/4k Junior Saturday 10/05/2014 2:00 pm - all Welcome! Location: The Run begins at the Fairfield Amphitheatre located just off Heidelberg Rd, Fairfield Please bring Scones, Jam and Cream. The start is near the river, there are tables, toilets are just up near car park. You can park along Heidelberg Rd or in the Boathouse Car park. *note some course changes. Please follow flags every 50 metres and caulk directions on path. strava/clubs/73122/group_events/4336 Description of Run: This is an off-road handicap run that initially goes down river towards the city, expect some fast descents and short steep climbs through tree covered areas as you head up towards Yarra Bend Rd - past the rear of the Golf course. At the road is the 2KM turn around point for Juniors, 7KM runners cross the road and continue on the service road beside the freeway heading downhill. At bottom of hill, course goes left following the river path all the way back to Yarra Bend Rd completing loop - some climbing along this section, its left again for a relatively flat section that follows Yarra Bend Rd going past where you crossed earlier continuing all the way to the bike path that enters the Boathouse area. Course turns right (cross Yarra Bend Rd) as we descend down following the path to the Pipe Bridge with approximately 2KM to go we cross the Pipe Bridge and take the first trail going up, this is a tough rutted climb! At the top of the climb you go right onto the Boulevard up to the lookout area before decending down on the path, crossing the Pipe Bridge and finishing down the steep stairs to the finish line. Note no passing on the steep stairs this is a neutral zone, the finish is just past the base of the stairs. Notes on Handicap: Brian and/or Edwin do the Handicaps based on your estimated KM pace over the distance and terrain difficulty. Generally slower runners go off first and try to hold the faster finishing runners. There can be a 15- 20 minutes difference in start times so the first runner goes off at 2:00 and then depending on handicap time, others follow at their start time, back markers could go off at 2:25-35. The handicap system should result in most runners finishing within minutes of each other. See you there. Coburg Winter Committee.
