#Fake #BatlaHouse Encounter Will challenge the Batla verdict in higher court: AWMELA chief July 25, 2013 By Muslim Mirror Correspondent, New Delhi, July 25: We are shocked to hear the verdict of theDelhi court in the Batla House encounter case. It was a fake encounter and allegations againstShehzad Ahmed were baseless. We will certainly challenge the verdict in high court, said Dr. Jawed Alam, president, AWMELA, an Azamgarh based civil group of eminent persons who was providing legal support to lone accused of Batla shootout Shehzad Ahmed. Dr. Jawed was reacting on today’sverdict of Saket court which held Shehzad guilty of firing on police team on 19thSeptember 2008 in Batla House area of Jamia Nagar. The Delhi Police had charged that it was Shehzad who opened fire on the raiding police team at Flat No. L-18 of Batla House locality in Jamia Nagar on 19thSeptember 2008, and in the firing police inspector Mohan Chand Sharma was killed. Shehazad had pleaded not guilty and countered the claimof the Delhi saying he was not even present at the flat on the dayof the encounter. Shahzad was arrested in February 2010 and police claimed it was he who had opened fire and fled the scene. Reacting on the verdict Dr Jawed further said: “The police had alleged Shehzad for firing on the police and fleeing the spot. How can it be possible for a person to jump off fourth floor of a buildingand survive to run away. Moreover, the photos of dead bodies of Atif and Sajid showed they were killed pointblank. Sajid had got several bullets in the upper part of his head. Besides, the two had injuries marks also on their bodies. Can this happen in a genuine encounter?” A week after the Delhi serial blasts(13thSep 2008) which claimed dozens of lives, a team of Special Cell of the Delhi police, all in plainclothes, secretly entered the flat in the early morning of 19thSep. The police said they reached the spot pursuing the culprits of the Delhi serial blasts tracking their cellular phone locations but the “terrorists” opened fire on them. In self defence they also opened fire in which two “culprits” of Delhi blasts were shot down at the spot. However, police story was blasted by human rights activists and investigative stories of the media. They said it was a fake encounter and the two Azamgarh youths Mohammad Atif and Mohammad Sajid were killed in cold blood in Batla House. As proof, they cited the postmortem reports of Atif and Sajid as well as the photos of their bodies taken at the time of funeral. During the trial, the court also questioned the Delhi police as to why inspector Sharma or any other member of the raiding teamwas not wearing jacket or helmet when they were pursuing alleged dreaded terrorists. Atif had got bullets in the upper part of his head- it showed as if he was made to sit down and bullets were pumped into his head. Moreover, civil activists said inspector Sharma was killed in inter departmental rivalry of police. They said, and photo proves it, he was walking on his feet when he was being taken to hospital. After the encounter several youths from Jamia Nagar and Azamgarh were arrested for their alleged involvement in the Delhi serial blasts and the Batla House encounter. The court will pronounce quantum of punishment on 29thJuly.
