Falcons Will Improve – Okon -Following 4-2 Win Against CIV In the wake of Saturdays 4-2 win against Cote dIvoire in their opening match of this years African Womens Championship (AWC) in Namibia, Nigerias female senior national team, Super Falcons coach, Edwin Okon has admitted that his side need to improve in their subsequent matches. Although Okon took positives from his teams ability to weather the storm and still come out with maximum points, the veteran female football tactician said there is always room for improvement. He was speaking after the Falcons joined Namibia on a winning note, as the hosts began their campaign with a 2-0 win over Zambia same day at Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek. Both Nigeria and Namibia are on three points in first and second place respectively but Ivory Coast in third will be looking to get their campaign back on track when they face the hosts on Tuesday. Six-time champions, Nigeria were pushed all the way by Ivory Coast, but the Falcons started brightly before some all-too-familiar sloppiness at the back allowed Ivory Coast to grow in confidence. The Falcons shot ahead in the 12th minute when Esther Sunday beat goalkeeper Ange Marie Thiamale, but the Ivorians levelled nine minutes later Fatou Coulibaly Tiegnou fired home from the penalty spot. Christelle NGuessan and Rebecca Elloh shot wide on two occasions at the end of a slick move from the Ivorians, after which Nigeria restored their lead on 54-minutes profiting from defender Mariam Diakites own goal, before Desire Oparanozie added the third in the 74th minute. Ivory Coast pulled a goal back under a minute with Christine Lohoues Yeble firing home but, three minutes from time, Asisat Oshoala deftly floated a cross from the right to Oparanozie who fired home to seal the victory. We knew Ivory Coast will be tough because they stopped defending champions Equatorial Guinea, but we need to improve further on this performance, said Okon.
