Fall Classes!! Hi parents and caregivers, I am opening art classes for kids this fall. Kids will learn art making through diverse methods,materials and disciplines. Beyond learning art making skills, the classes will provide an environment that your kids will learn to think creatively, with an open mind, to observe and describe, analyze, to express feelings, to practice problem-solving skills, to collaborate with other kids and to discover that there is more than one right answer, multiple points of view. I firmly believe that art is one of the best, if not best, the most fun way for kids to learn these through. There will be three classes for different age groups. Group 1 is for ages 4 to 6, group 2 for 7 to 9 and group 3 for 10 and older. Each class runs for two hours weekly starting Friday September 2oth through Saturday December 14th. Total number of class for each group is 13. Cost is 900NTD plus 50NTD for materials per class for group 1 and group 2. Cost for group 3 is 900NTD plus 100NTD for materials. Class details are listed below. Classes will be run in an age appropriate manner. Project outlines Works on paper and canvas * 3-dimensional charcoal drawing – Introduction to the roles of light and shadow in drawing. Kids will draw, shade, smudge and erase to create a 3-D picture. * Dreamscapes (Acrylic painting on canvas): Introduction to the artist Salvador Dali and his surrealistic paintings. *Printmaking: Kids will make multiple mono-prints using an acrylic plate, water color paint, Q-tips, paper and a roller. Clay project * Tea cup and tea pot using mold *Portrait head/Anatomy : Kids will make brains, bones, muscles, eye balls, and teeth separately then put them together to construct a portrait head. Introduction to the sculptor August Rodin and the influence of his art. Papermaking (2 sessions) : Kids will use recycled print scrap paper to make paper from scratch. Soap carving: Kids will make small shapes and sculptures by carving with loop tools, hair pins and plastic knives. Pattern making and decorating ornaments for Christmas: Kids will look at images of the traditional decorative patterns from Korea, Japan and China for inspirations and create new patterns. Kids will use their patterns to make decorative ornaments. Collaborative mobile installation (Two weeks): Introduction to the artist Alexander Calder and his mobile sculptures. Each kid will create a light weight mobile sculpture then put the sculptures together to create a large mobile installation. Nature Art (Held outdoors ): Introduction to the Land artist Andy Goldsworthy. Kids will create temporary works using dirt, leaves, fruits, rocks, branches or other things that are natural. Final project “Portfolio building” Kids will be encouraged to do this project based on their own ideas and creativity. Discussions and Assignments *A research paper on “Similarities and differences of the traditional decorative patterns from Korea, Japan and China”. *Age 10 -12 class will have an additional paper assignment on artist and architect Maya Lin who created Vietnam Veterans Memorial. Classes will be held in two different locations.
