Families visit class 21 ChalleNGe cadets CAMP GUERNSEY JOINT TRAINING CENTER, Wyo. – Approximately 135 people arrived at the Wyoming Cowboy ChalleNGe Academy campus to visit the Class 21 cadets for family day, May 31. Cadets had not seen or visited with their parents or family members since beginning the Academy’s training, education and mentoring program on April 6. Parents, grandparents, siblings and mentors traveled as far as 475 miles to visit their son or daughter attending the program, located on the Camp Guernsey Joint Training Center. The mission of Cowboy ChalleNGe is to provide a safe and professional learning environment for youth 16 to 18 years old that produces graduates with the values, education, life skills, and employment potential for a brighter future as a responsible and productive Wyoming citizen. Family day showcased the cadets’ growth in discipline, respect, knowledge, confidence to their parents and family members. Specific activities included a cadet drill and ceremonies demonstration before touring the Academy’s campus and speaking with teachers and key staff. Afterwards, cadets spent approximately six hours in the surrounding communities visiting with their families. The 29 cadets of Class 21 are scheduled to graduate the program’s residential phase on Sept. 6, before returning home to begin a year-long mentoring period. Class 23 begins July 13 and applications are being accepted until July 3.
