FareShare Food Drive 3rd – 5th July Food redistribution charity FareShare is partnering with Tesco and The Trussell Trust to run a nationwide food collection, helping to feed thousands of vulnerable people across the UK. Taking place in all Tesco stores, this will be the fourth time that FareShare, Tesco and The Trussell Trust have united to host a food collection of this scale. FareShare is a national charity, dedicated to fighting hunger and its underlying causes by redistributing surplus food to hundreds of local charities across the UK. Working in partnership with retailers and manufacturers, FareShare is able to secure good food, 85% of which is surplus and would have otherwise gone to waste. As much of this food is fresh, with a short shelf-life, food drives can help to collect much-needed additional long-life supplies, including dried, packaged or tinned food. The last collection of its kind, which took place in November last year, saw the equivalent of 4.3 million meals donated - equating to 32,000 trolley-loads of food. Register as a volunteer at July’s Neighbourhood Food Collection by visiting: fareshare.org.uk/food-collection-2014/ and sign up by 27th June.
