Fates Guardians Chapter 1 A Grand Greeting “Fire fire! Someone call 911 the whole hotel is on fire!” Burning flames surrounded the The Grand Hotel as it was burning to the floor. Some whack job arsonist escaped from prison and had decided to set The Grand Hotel a blaze. People stood watch as the dying screams of the residents were still going. Everyone that was there were too frightened with fear that when the fire truck had pulled up no one noticed the flashing red vehicle. “Go get these people out of here come on come on we have no time for this!” Mathew yelled. As Mathew yelled his teammates quickly jumped off the fire truck and started to pull civilians out of the firemen’s work. One by one the civilians were moved and as they were moved Mathew had begun to unwrap the two fire hoses. He threw one to his best bud Frank and together they both began to try to put out the raging flames. “Mathew I don’t think these flames are going to give up anytime soon, it’s too late to save the building!” Yelled Frank. “I know but we have to try to bring the temperature down in the hotel so we can save all the civilians inside!” Mathew hollered back to Frank. “Alright Matt go get suited up and be ready in ten, I’ll try to bring the heat down while you’re in there!” Yelled Frank. Mathew quickly drops his hose and heads to the back of the fire truck where he finds eight fire guard suits. He quickly but precisely puts one on and runs towards Frank. As he is running he sees Frank on one of the city’s police phones. Mathew changes his direction and heads towards where Frank is currently at. “Frank what’s going on?” Asked Mathew. “Its Maria, my sister, she had left her boyfriend and was staying in a hotel for a little bit, Mathew she was staying at the Grand and your wife was visiting her, they’re both in trouble. Go get them.” Said Frank sadly. “I will save them Frank.” Mathew said. Mathew quickly turned towards the Grand and began to run towards it. As he ran by the civilians and other fire men his mind began to fill with worry. Knowing his wife is inside a fiery building that could collapse at any second made him even more worried. People began to become blurs to his mind as he got closer to the Grand. He reaches the door and with all his strength he breaks it down. He looks around and sees flames as he stands in the lobby, he stands there looking at the stirring flames. As he looked he noticed something strange about the flames, they seemed to dance into different forms of color. Mathew had started to believe he was next to true beauty. It took him awhile but finally he pulled his mind together and began to search for the stairwell. All of a sudden, “Mathew I forgot to tell you that my sister is on the sixth floor…. And Mathew, please hurry.” Said Frank over the radio. The sound of the radio going off startled Mathew, but he thought to himself, ”At least I know what floor they’re on instead of searching through a thousand rooms.” Mathew began to look for the stairs again this time his mind was set on getting to the sixth floor. He finds the completely blackened stairs, believing that the stairs may already have been turned to ash, he begins to run up them and to his surprise the stairs are stable. He goes up through the first floor to the second. As he is running he hears something in his head, “Turn back Mathew you will not like what you find here now turn back.” Mathew stops, he thinks to himself for a moment wondering what had just happened. After a moment he begins to continue his journey up the fiery stairs. He goes from the second floor to the third floor and as he takes his first step on the floor again the eerie voice speaks to him,” Mathew your wife is dead please just turn back some things are not meant for the eyes of a human.” Mathew easily disbelieves the voice he is hearing in his head and continues his journey up the stairs for a second time. The place begins to heat up even more and for some strange reason the fire had changed from red to green. He reaches floor four and this time he expects the voice to speak again, but yet it stays quiet. Mathew yells. ” What’s wrong huh got nothing else to say that you believe will hold me back. Let me tell you something I’m still coming and nothing or no one can stop me.” Mathew listens to see if anything will speak back to him, but all he hears is the sound of his voice echoing. Mathew begins to run up the stairs again, exhausted and hot, Mathews fate is held in his hands and he knows it. He reaches the fifth floor and as he does the left half of the Grand falls to crumbs, but lucky for him the stairs are on the right side. His heart races a mile a minute from fearing what could happen next. “Static;” “Mathew, Mathew are you ok, we all just watched half of the building fall apart.” screamed Frank over the radio. Mathew breathing heavily in fear, “Yeah Frank I’m ok a little shaken up but I’m fine, how’s everything on your end?” “God dang it’s good to hear your voice Mathew, I don’t know if you know this but you have been in there for over two hours. We all thought you were dead, I told everyone that you would make it out, stay strong Mathew.” Said Frank. “What do you mean I’ve been in here for over two hours its only been ten minutes, besides that are you still trying to put these flames out its getting hotter and what’s even stranger is the flames are green, Frank can you see this?” Mathew questioned. “Mathew are you going crazy we have already put the flames out, we have men in there looking for you. We’ve already found my sister and your wife, Mathew you’re not going to like this, but they are both dead. Where are you Matt?” Questioned Frank. “What are you talking about Frank, I haven’t seen a single other fireman in here, are you messing with me?” Argued Mathew. Mathew was confused about what Frank was telling him. Of course it is impossible for Mathew to have been in the building for two hours. His suit was designed to last only half an hour. He looks at his watch and notices that it is melted, which came as no surprise to him with how hot it was inside of the fiery hotel. With heat still rising Mathew decided he should keep looking for his wife and Frank’s sister, but he remained on the radio as he kept going. “Mathew I don’t know if you are still there or not but if you are, just know that everyone will always remember you as the hero you once were. It may have been ten years since the Grand Hotel fire, but every time I pass by the Grand I get a feeling you are still there. I wish you had only survived that fire to see your son grow up to be a fire truck kid. He will always fallow your dream and passion.” Franks voice just came out of nowhere; it was like Frank was standing next to Mathew. Mathew quickly whips around to see Frank standing next to him, but to his surprise there was nothing but flames. Mathew turns his radio up but only hears static. “I must be going crazy from heat exhaustion, come on Mathew pull yourself together you’ve been in far worse situations than this before. I can do this I can find them.” Mathew spoke to himself to relax his own nerves. He began to walk forward up stairs to the sixth floor and as soon as he reached the floor the raspy eerie voice again spoke to him. Mathew listen to Frank, is it really him or your mind playing tricks. Well it is neither; it’s the visions of what will happen if you come to this room. I do not want to end your life, but if it keeps my existence a secret from others then I will kill you. I’m not going to beg you to turn around, but I am going to tell you for the last time to leave and forget about your wife.” The voice was trying to be very persuasive but Mathew still would not give up. He felt a presence that began to lead him down the fiery corridor to a room, a room with a number of five one two. Mathew knew that once he opened this door that his fate would change from his hands to whosever was behind this door. Mathew lays his gloved hand on the heated door knob and begins to twist it to the left, and as he does the door falls to ashes filling the hallway with a dense cloud of ash. As the cloud fills the hallway Mathew realizes the ash is sticking to his suit as though it is a magnet for the ash. Next thing Mathew realizes was that the ash was somehow getting into his suit. To his surprise the ash stopped right before it hit his mask. Mathew begins to step into the room when he stops because for some strange reason the ash felt like it was moving on his body. That’s when Mathew had his last realization, the ash wasn’t ash …. It was oil. “That’s right Mathew its oil not ash, watch your movements now for the next step you take could leave you burned for the rest of your life.” The voice that has been speaking to him sounded as though it was right in front of, even worse the voice was standing in front of him. In front of him the smoky oil began to clear and standing not even six feet in front of him was a person, not just any person. His skin shivered as he studied the body of the other man in the room. His skin was completely on fire, he had no clothes, eyes were completely blue orbs instead, and his hair was a kind of black flame that seemed to sway with ease. “Hello Mathew.” said the fiery man. Mathew couldn’t believe what he was seeing. His thoughts were in a question mark. Seeing a person completely set ablaze and yet standing as though the fire wasn’t harming his skin, this went against everything Mathew ever knew. “How…How…How are you on fire without harm?” questioned Mathew with a stutter. “I’m on fire, oh I guess I didn’t realize I still was,” he looks at his body. “What am I doing, this fire is my body Mathew.” The man groaned with a smile. “Come on Mathew take a seat, enjoy some coffee, oh and don’t forget to watch where you step….after all you are covered in oil.” The man was right, if Mathew stepped anywhere into the room the hot black flames would incinerate him on contact. Mathew had no choice but to stay out of the room, and look at the fiery man. Mathew thinks for a moment. “What are you and what are you doing here?” asked Mathew. “Well if it hasn’t occurred to your small and stupid mind…I’m here to destroy this building…You see I was here looking for something very valuable to me, it took some time but alas I found what I was looking for in this very room…In fact, what I was looking for I not only found in this room but it seems that it has been amongst you for nine months now.” Said the man. Mathew was at a loss at first, but as soon as the man had said that, Mathew knew what he was talking about. The fiery man was talking about a baby, but with this new information came a new question to Mathew’s lips. “Whose baby are you looking for?” Mathew asked. “Well slap me twice and throw cold water on me, the human can actually think…Well Mathew is it not obvious…I’m looking for my child, my son, my little baby Raziel…Who I believe to be in the womb of the woman laying on that bed knocked unconscious.” The man said. Mathew quickly looked to where the man was pointing only to see what he had began to fear. His wife was lying on the hotels bed surrounded by black fire and like the man said she was pregnant and unconscious. Mathew quickly looked back at the man. “You’ve got to be kidding me…That’s my wife and in her womb is my child not yours…Talk about wrong place at the wrong time.” Mathew laughed. The blue orbs where the man eyes should have been began to flicker with what seemed like excitement. Mathew grew wary and had begun to wonder who and what this man was, he searched his thoughts to see if he had ever heard of a flaming man. All the answers he found ended with the same result; the flaming man was from a bedtime story he heard when he was little. “Mathew we’re wasting precious time here, I need to get my son and go home before dinner time so will you please hurry up and leave while I finish this birthing ritual.” Said the man in an irritable tone. “What do you mean birthing ritual, you know what you’re right we are wasting time here…” as soon as Mathew said that he began to charge at the stranger and with all his might he took a solid right swing at the man’s fiery face. In that very instant his gloved hand made contact to the man’s skin, Mathew’s whole right hand incinerated to nothing but a pile of ash. Mathews face was stunned, he didn’t know what to say or think, he couldn’t comprehend the fact that his hand was just destroyed. “Hmm amazing I guess you are the human father of the child or else the black flames would have made not only your hand but all of you disappear. Oh and nice choice on your swing it would have probably hurt me a lot if you were wearing a wet glove. But now that you are acquainted with how my skin feels I’ll show you my true form.” And with that the man took a step back away from Mathew. As the man stood there the flames around his body went out, his skin grew bloody red, the blue orbs turned into real black eyes, he grew a foot taller, grew horns and white hair out of his head, black angel wings came out of his back, and a pair of pants appeared on him. Mathew forgot about his missing hand and took notice of the new person standing in front of him. Mathew’s eyes grew wide and just then the creature opened its mouth. “Now that I’m comfortable I will properly introduce myself. My name is Jacob and I am the Demon of all Flames.” Jacob said in a thunderous tone. Chapter 2 Jacob With those words Jacob moved towards Mathew with such speed that Mathew didn’t even have time to react to his movements. Jacob grabbed Mathews head by the jaw and held him in the hot air. As Jacob held Mathew in his hand he began to ponder why Mathew’s body could survive the black flames completely. It was true that Mathew was a human father to the child but that could only protect him for a few seconds in the flames. The oil should have caught fire and incinerated his body but it didn’t. “I wonder Mathew why are you not on fire with all that oil on you, the second you ran in here it should have turned you to ashes.” Said Jacob. Jacob scanned Mathew’s body to see if he had some water in his suit to keep him safe but he didn’t. All Mathew could reply with was a groan of pain for his missing hand. “I did warn you there would be consequences if you came here, but yet you still showed up. Does this child really mean so much to you that you are willing to die for him?” Questioned Jacob. “I would give my soul for my child no matter what.” Staggered Mathew as he tried to breathe between being choked and having the pain of his missing hand subsided. Mathew knew this would be the end for him and his wife. The demon kept him alive for quite a while and he began to wonder why. “Tell me Jacob, why have you allowed me to live this long if you are as powerful as you say then why not just kill me now?” Questioned Mathew. Jacob’s mouth grew wide with a grin as he opened it to speak. “That can be answered quite easily, as I have told you earlier I am here to do a birthing ritual which requires almost all my energy, if I killed you right now I wouldn’t have enough energy to return home. But since you brought this little chat to my complete attention I will finish my ritual and head home now” With those words Jacob brought Mathew close to his face and threw him back into the burning hallway knocking Mathew unconscious. Jacob then turned towards Mathew’s wife and finished his ritual. The woman woke up in raging pain as her stomach began to melt into a womb of lava. Jacob stretched out his claws and sliced right into the womb revealing the small baby Raziel. Mathew had woken back up in time to see Jacob take the baby out of his “now dead” wife. Jacob brought Raziel close to his face and kissed the newborn on his head. As soon as he did that a tattoo appeared in the shape of a blue sun. “It’s time to go home son, it is time to see the world that our kind is from and time to become who you really are, a fire demon.” With those words Jacob and Raziel began to be swarmed by a white fire. “Noooooooo!” screamed Mathew as he watched his son and the demonic thief disappear.
