Favourites struggle in World woolhandling first round New Zealand’s World woolhandling title favourites have have the job-ahead of them if they are to remain in contention for the 2014 championship after finishing well down the order after the first round in Ireland today. With 28 having having competed in the 11 heatsheats, defending champion Joel Henare was in 12th place and teammate Ronnie Goss in 15th. The second round is tomorrow after which the top nine on points combined from the two rounds nine will go through to the semi-final on the last day of the championships on Sunday. The field is led by UK competitors, with Meinir Evans, of Wales, holding a commanding a huge lead of almost 30 points over second-placed Kirsty Donald, of Scotland, with Hilary Bond, of England third. The first Southern Hemisphere woolhandler is Sarah Moran, in fourth place while the leading competitors from all of Ireland are Northern Ireland representative Jayne Harkness Bones and World Championships host committee chairman George Graham, 7th and 10th respectively.
