‘Fayose should stop undermining the legislature’ The Deputy Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Prof. Mohammed Yisa, on Wednesday urged the Governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayodele Fayose to stop undermining the legislative and judicial arms of government. He condemned the usurpation of legislative functions by seven members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly who elected a protem speaker, and approved some commissioner nominees of Fayose and other legislative duties the seven members embarked upon on Monday, saying the actions were illegal, unconstitutional and therefore null and void. He also condemned the alleged sealing, by Fayose, of the office of the Ekiti State House of Assembly Speaker, Dr. Adewale Omirin, and called for restoration of the rule of law and law and order in the state. Yisa spoke in an interview with journalists during a summit on the life and times of the late political icon, Dr. Olusola Saraki, by the Kwara State University, Malete, Kwara State. “The governor of Ekiti State has been taking laws into his hand. That was what he did and was impeached in first spell as a governor because of his political rascality. Now he started with the judiciary. We were told that thugs were sent to the court to beat up judges. Now he has descended on the legislature. The story of Governor Fayose has been building up for a very long time. If he continues like this, we can see how Ekiti State will become a land of lawlessness. “I condemn the way and manner the governor of Ekiti State is running the state. I condemn in totality everything wrong he has done in relations to the legislature and judiciary.” The Guest Speaker, Mr. Raheeem Adedoyin, urged political leaders in the country to emulate the late Saraki in delivering dividends of democracy to the people as well as in true consensus building.
