Fear and anxiety step into our lives as a mechanism to save us fromexperiencing pain. It is these two emotions which cause us to want to control and manage our lives so as to avoid a crash, but these two emotions are also responsible for us not being able to surrender to being our true and more vulnerable selves. In order to have genuine self-love and deep and lasting relationships with others we have to be willing to let go of needing to be in control. In doing this we actually bring love closer to us from others because we are not blocking it in an effort to stay away from pain. This does not mean that you allow yourself to get walked on or to not set boundaries or never have things go your way. This only means that you have the bravery to be authentic in the good and in the painful. You dont hide and control your emotions, but you speak truthfully about them with calm because in not needing to control you can speak patiently and simply. This brings intimacy close to you and your life and relationships become healthier, safer and more fulfilling. Self-love means that you trust yourself. You can move from control to surrender, from negative feelings into happier feelings, and from judgment and labeling of situations into being neutral while you think and search for the bigger picture. This can be a hard and scary shift but we are all works in progress and this shift is worth it and possibly even life changing.
