Featured short film ~ Remember the Time ~ Michaels costume for the short film Remember the Time was designed by Michael Bush and Dennis Tompkins after Michael has asked them to watch the film The Ten Commandments starring Yul Brynner as Pharoah Rameses 11 who during the chariot scene was wearing a gorgerine an assembly of metal discs worn on the chest. Michaels version was made of sheets of brass, plated completely with eighteen karat gold with synthetic red stones set in the gold plating. On seeing the gorgerine for the first time Michael was ecstatic exclaiming I cant believe I get to wear this! John Singleton, the director of the short film, wanted Michael to wear something similar to the rest of the cast who were scantily dressed but due to Michaels skin disorder, he needed to be kept covered. John wanted Michael in full Egyptian regalia including a traditional headdress in the spirit of King Tut, to which Michael replied No Way Bush! On the day of the filming the headdress went missing. A brigade of staff swarmed and searched the campus of Universal Studios, while Bush made a call to Tompkins to search the driveway of their home for the item convinced he had dropped it on the way to the shoot. After 20 minutes [they] were forced to start shooting and did so without the headdress. When the shoot was complete [Bush] met Michael back in his trailer to change and saw the headdress on a chair next to the bed.
