February is fast approaching...this is the time of year when we focus on matters of our heart, our physical heart as well as our romantic heart. The heart is always front and center at all times. As many of you know, Im an Advocate for Women with Heart Disease, and have been for 11+ years. I along with countless other women, who are my heart sisters advocate on Capitol Hill, for ALL women regarding heart disease. Heart Disease is the #1 killer of ALL women in America. Heart Disease is an equal opportunity killer it has no regard for your socio-economic standing, or your educational standing. It is can be devastating and debilitating to you and your loved ones...in fact it can turn your whole world upside down within seconds. Your heart matters tremendously, care enough to get your heart checked, regularly. A good time to begin is now. Dont wait for the fatality to show up on your doorsteps which could be in your work environment, on the play ground with your children, in the supermarket, in your car, anywhere where your heart is, heart disease is lurking to show itself. This is the truth. It comes when you least expected and is never desired. So stop ignoring the tooth ache that wont go away, the lower back pains, and the numbness in your left arm, or even the ridiculously fatigued person that you are not becoming but actually are! Yes, a womans symptoms for heart disease is vastly different from that of a man. Women DO have heart attacks! Generally when you least expect it. Its real. There are not always many women who survive a massive heart attack, I know one such woman, Bess Matilda Sophia Robertson, my heart sister. And there are countless others who have dedicated their remaining energy to pointing out the pitfalls and working tirelessly with the senators and representatives on Capitol Hill to get your heart matters addressed properly. I have heart disease and we live victoriously, however, it wasnt always that simple. And, well quite frankly it will not be...but we believe we can get things done...we live to help you live better, stronger, wiser, but more importantly healthier! Future generations are relying upon us to do the work to eradicate this ugly disease. Together we can make a difference in the hearts of America and all of the women who make up America. And, no guys, we havent forgotten you, heart disease is also the number one killer of you gentlemen too. So what shall we do? Together we can do much such as pass this very loooong note across to your friends/family and colleagues. Its worth it. Thanks for sharing the message that your heart matters from a mind, body, spirit perspective. If want the beat to go on, we then must, go on to encourage wellness in our entire lives...balance is essential. My name is Nellie Anita Wosu, and I am the face of heart disease that not only survives but thrives in a myriad of ways. I no longer look at this devastating disease as my burden, in fact, I believe Ive been gifted with this. What you say are you crazy? No, actually Im quite lucid and aware of just how precious the gift of life is. In 2003, at the Mayo Clinic, I said these words...Your heart is the central part of your body, without it nothing else matters. Those words were true then and they still are true even to the more. Encourage someone today, including yourself! I am a WomenHeart Champion (the National Coalition for Women with Heart Disease) we advocate for millions of women each and every day. We are the nations only Patient Advocacy Group which goes to bat for every woman in America. Give us a look at womenheart.org. We can use your support every day! Our hearts are waiting on you to embrace your heart with love! 1 in 3 women will receive heart disease. Lets get that number down so that no woman will be impacted by the disease that expects to take your heart down. Your heart matters to me and to the One who created our combined heart! Love your heart ... more... give your heart a break that is worth it! Get your heart checked today!
