Fellow Machakos residents; we have debated, played blame games, abused each other, defended politicians, shared information and argued on several topics that are critical to Machakos people. The most mentioned name in this forum is Dr. Alfred Mutua. He has been on the spot many times. Why Mutua? Do people hate our Governor? My personal opinion: most of the people that question Mutua are not haters; these are genuine people who had huge confidence with him. I liked the speed which Mutua took over Machakos, he inspired hope, he came in as a visionary leader and convinced us he was a leader that Machakos yearned for. Mutua will go to record as the best in pulling PR stunts in Kenya. His ability to create dramas and scenes has deceived many gullible residents of Machakos. He has been keen to engineer propaganda that his critics are Muthama sycophants or enemies of development and most recently anti-Mutua. Naïve people are afraid of mentioning his name for fear of attack by his cohorts and paid brigade in social media, most of them a beneficiary of the shrewd system in the county government. My point is clear, I don’t hate Mutua, but he has let us down big time; however there is room for improvement. Mutua is one of the most exposed and educated guy in Africa, leave alone Kenya. He has worked in many countries including the super power. He is one of the best minds in Kenya, he can do better than what he is doing now. Been a leader of his caliber, he has hit below the belt. The first mistake that will haunt him for the rest of his mission is failure to embrace professionalism and meritocracy. Machakos has some of the finest professional that could have worked with him to deliver; unfortunately he opted to bring onboard his campaign team. It’s very clear his finance module is very weak, budgeting and forecasting is rocket science in his camp. We cannot account 10 billion kitty already received by the county. Contactors and employees are yet to be paid. Economically we don’t have sustainable projects that can increase production and create employment. Agriculture, industrialization and manufacturing are the basics of the economy. We have a long way to go but I have faith we will reach there. Machakos is bigger than all of us. Play your role without fear of favor.
