Fellow Parents - If you care about your childrens education be concerned... be very concerned over Common Core State Standards (CCSS). Have you heard of CCSS and do you know what it is? On the surface it doesnt seem half bad, but thats the point. Thats how its supposed to be portrayed. Have you noticed a heightened sense of anxiety and frustration from parents, students, and teachers alike here in Huntsville over the Math and ELA instruction and testing? Do your research, but go beyond the first few pages on Google. Read the pros and cons, but then delve deeper into the pros and cons. Decide for yourself. This is one issue that appears to be bringing liberals and conservatives together for a common cause, e.g. to repeal Common Core. CCSS supporters are using psychological persuasion to try and convince free thinkers on why its so good. CCSS is to education as Obamacare is to health care. Sadly though you hear very little about CCSS. It has been rolled out so quietly that most are probably unaware of its existence. Has it ever come up directly at a PTA meeting? How is it that the federal government was able to rapidly and completely transform and ram CCSS down the states throats without any debate or discussion? Answer - coercion. If youre okay with a lack of transparency, if youre okay with your and your familys personal data being collected and shared so that your children can be tracked, if youre okay knowing that 45 states have bought into CCSS due to coercion (albeit several are now reevaluating), if youre okay with your child being treated like a robot with an emphasis on standardized testing, if youre okay with the federal government dictating what our children are taught, and if youre okay with your child being treated like an experiment then CCSS is right for you. Friends, CCSS doesnt necessarily mean high standards, a race to the top, ensuring our children are college ready and on equal footing with our international comrades. Be advised that the next several years will be lost years for our children if we dont act. Please, do your research and take a stance one way or the other. More info to come so stay tuned!
