Female music promoter calls for professionalism Balckashine, a female music promoter at Black Lynx Entertainment has called for professionalism in The Gambia music industry. “Professionalism in the sense that our artists, producers and promoters need to work hard to meet the international standard required to hit the world music market,” she told The Voice on Tuesday. The famous TV presenter and anchor of the Fiila Show said upcoming artists in the country must work hard in their lyrics and video clips. “We want more and more people in the business like promoters, producers, and writers to shape our music industry for the good,” she said. Blacka, whose real name is Mamalen Njie, noted that the Fiila show has given courage to lots of artists to shoot new and better videos usually played by Fiila. This, according to her, exposes many young artists. “We discovered that The Gambia has potential young talents and we decided come together to move it. People are now embracing Gambian music via our promotion in Fiila, Open Mic Festival and online,” Blacka said. Calling on young artists to work hard, Blacka said gaining fame in the country is not enough - they need to go international. However, she advised that Gambian artists should aim at reaching audiences countrywide before going international. “Let us support our own artists by attending their shows, buying their CDs. That will give them more courage and the zeal to forge ahead,” she suggested.
