Fife Fife councillor charged after confrontation with Better Together campaigners By Kieran Andrews, 12 September 2014 9.38am. 176 Share 108 Twitter Email David MacDiarmid. Police have charged an SNP councillor after an angry confrontation with Better Together campaigners in Kinross. Howe of Fife and Tay Coast representative David MacDiarmid allegedly shouted and swore at the gathering in Kinross town centre as they put up pro-Union signs on Wednesday afternoon. He accepted the breach of the peace charge when officers followed up a complaint made by No activists. One of those present, Iain Dale, said: “I believe in what I believe in but there is no need to be abusive. I couldn’t believe that anyone in an elected office would behave in such a craven manner.” It is understood officers were informed of the licence plate number of the car Mr MacDiarmid was travelling in and spoke to him in the aftermath of the exchange. He accepted a £30 on the spot fine. A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “A man was issued with a fixed penalty notice at around 4.30pm after a disturbance in Kinross High Street.” The Courier called Mr MacDiarmid but no response had been received at the time of going to press.
