Fifty years ago today I wrote in my diary, ...in the Evening went to St Alpheges where Dean Scogings was preaching for the 50th jubilee week. He spoke of the hard times in the past, when the parish had first been built up, in times of depression, and said that now we were living in a boom, and did not know the faith and trouble it had cost to build up the parish. The original wood and iron church can be seen on the left, used as a parish hall in 1962. May be of interest to people who were around St Alpheges about 1964/65, like Rod Smith, John Aitchison, Isobel Beukes, Terri Boardman and perhaps a few others
