Figured since I was in the health insurance market I would check out Obama Cares options. The Plans are decent and we were able to find the same plan with the same carrier as we currently have-the one I offered to my own employees. Great. Except its $400 per month MORE than what I negotiated for my company. THIS MAKES NO SENSE. How does my company have more buying power than the federal government?? Insurance follows the law of large numbers and by sheer volume the premiums should be lower. Never mind that the rates in my company were high due to our high utilization. Clearly the insurance carriers are taking advantage and pricing these programs as if they were individual policies. If I believed the premiums would make their way to increased reimbursement for doctors or hospitals which would improve care and access I maybe could be ok with it but Im quite certain that will not be the case. This is a disgusting windfall for insurers. Im so disappointed. We could/SHOULD do so much better.
