Fiji has been a wonderful place to relax after doing so much this year. Weve not been able to put our feet up the whole time we were there as there were other islands to explore, sharks to see and surfing to do. Maybe when we get to our final destination, well be able to relax. Our last night was spent watching a film in our room. After that, we chose to listen to the excitable group of kids staying in the dorm next door. Of course, that was our second choice. So much for booking a quiet garden room! In the morning, Semi didnt show up to rent me a surfboard again. Same as the last two days. At least I didnt get up at 6:30am to meet him as I did yesterday. No, today we slept in until at least 8:30am. We had breakfast, packed all our stuff to the sounds of The Correspondents, disputed our bill which had 2 surfboard rentals on it and then got a local bus to the airport. Our last meal we had by the waterfront in the marina. Its uncanny how much the people here look like Jamaican people. Its not just the look either, its the music, culture and the food. So we opted for the Goat Curry (or Curried Goat as it should be known!) It wasnt quite the Jamaican dish, but good enough. There are many cab drivers in the marina that want to rip you off. Thats cab drivers all over the world, they are a nasty bunch. Right down there with debt collectors and parking attendants! They wanted to charges $45 for a $20 ride back to the airport! In our final negotiation, the thief was trying to charge us $25 as the bus turned up. Since we werent in a rush, we got on the $4 bus leaving the idiot cab driver to talk to the other cab drivers about how they should probably lower their prices! In January this year, we were at the tail end of our last Australia trip. Since then we have been on 18 flights, 11 long haul bus journeys and 8 boats to circumnavigate this planet. We have seen all sorts of wildlife from Bears in Canada to Penguins in Galapagos. Inca ruins, Catholics, Hindus, Muslims & Scientologists. Nazca lines, Bar 36, Giant turtles, Diego the father of his race & whats left of Lonesome Georges harem. Weve learned that cab drivers and rip-off merchants are the same thing and never trust the first answer you get from any South American. Weve stayed in the the most beautiful and the most disgusting places on Earth. Had the best food and the worst stomach bugs. Seen the contrast between San Blas Islands and the litter in Galapagos. We even resurrected a sub-species of snake from extinction. We have seen the real rich and the real poor. 18 Flights, 11 long haul busses and 8 boats to take us all the way around the world. Today, we are in Northern New South Wales. We arrived 2 days ago to a warm welcome by my Mother-in-Law and the tropical rain of Oz. I have thoroughly enjoyed sharing our epic trip of a lifetime with you. Thank you for taking an interest. I hope you have enjoyed reading as much as I have enjoyed writing and photographing. Its been a dream of mine to circumnavigate the globe and today, I have fulfilled that dream. It brings a lump to my throat to say this will be my final post. But for now, I am finally home.........
