Filer, Idaho revisted It was was less than a year ago, Feb 8, 2014, when the dash cam video of Filer cop Tarek Hassani brutally gunning down a residents dog named Hooch went viral. This took place in the front yard while a childs birthday party was in progress. The video is still difficult and disturbing to watch. A protest attended by hundreds followed. An angry FB page grew to 12,000 supporters and hundreds of posts. The next city council meetings were tense and filled with concerned citizens seek justice. The official report from the Nampa, ID Police Department justified the actual shooting- but did not justify the behavior of Tarek Hassani. A recall was also initiated to unseat Mayor Dunn. In the end Hassani kept his job. The protests dissipated. The recall effort was a huge failure. The FB page is quiet. The Filer police department did have Jim Osorio come and train its cops and other departments in non-lethal methods to deal with dogs. That was a good thing. The final chapter of the Filer saga is the recent settlement between Filer and Hoochs owner Richard Clubb. James Davis, the attorney who represented Filers interest, told Dogs Shot By Police today that the settlement amount was $35,000. This ends the legal portion of this case. The city has admitted no wrong doing. It is over. But we still have the video evidence. -jeffrey justice youtu.be/nCKO7xi8ZeY
