Film Studies class begins this week: Join English instructor, Matthew Valencich, as he explores the connection between film and literature, I teach film because I believe that visual literacy is extremely important in todays society. Some people want to tune out and eat popcorn. I want people to tune-in and engage their eyes and minds and enjoy films as critical literary and cultural artifacts. Directors make conscious choices and students learn to appreciate the artistry and conceptual depth in modern cinema. Part 1: The Art of British Director Alfred Hitchcock. This class will investigate the themes of the double, the voyeur, and the innocent person involved in an intrigue through six films: Shadow of a Doubt, Strangers on a Train, Rear Window, Vertigo, The 39 Steps, and North by Northwest. 1/15 - 2/26 Class meets at Rio Americano High School in room A7 on Thursdays from 6:30pm-9:00pm. Part One-- 6 classes/15 hours. The tuition is $ 50. Educators may earn CEUs by submitting a signed prior approval form. Enroll online at sanjuan.edu/sunrisetc
